Oregon Manufacturing Workforce Event

On Thursday, December 3rd, sixty seven people attended the OWIB Manufacturing Workforce Committee first planning meeting. The group covered a very broad spectrum, including private sector, manufacturing trade associations, labor, workforce staff, educational providers, apprenticeship, and others.
After a power point presentation outlining some critical facts about the Oregon manufacturing economy and a summary of manufacturing-related workforce issues, attendees rank ordered the issues and participated in round table discussions regarding priority challenges and strategies to address them. They also identified the barriers currently keeping us from achieving the results we are after. Click here to view more photos from this meeting.
Reports from each work group reflected the depth to which each topic was explored and the common threads that seemed to run through so many of the issues.
The information will be put together into a work product that will be discussed by the committee within the next few weeks as part of its development of a Strategic Actions Plan. Those in attendance were asked to commit to being willing to work in support of the final Plan at the local and regional levels.
Watch for the final report to be posted on this site in January.
